Featured Resource: Faithify.org
Faithify is a crowdfunding site a where passionate people INSPIRE, UNITE, and FUND Unitarian Universalist ministries.

Faithify’s purpose is to:
  • Inspire a culture of innovation that extends the reach of UU values
  • Lower the walls between existing congregations
  • Ignite ministries in new venues, formats, and communities
  • Bridge geographic and generational borders using 21st century technologies
  • Help passionate individuals invest directly in ministries that excite them
  • Help ministry innovators reach a passionate public

Crowdfunding has fundamentally changed how we fund-raise. In being able to mobilize resources from everyday people, and rely on thousands of smaller donors rather than the institutional backing from governments, foundations, or even select donors with big pockets, now anyone can raise thousands of dollars with just the click of a button.

Check out the site and see what projects inspire you!

Introducing CER Resource Pages: Communications and Social Media
The Central East Region has a number of resource pages on a variety of topics important to congregational life. These are "top suggested resources" prepared by the program manager for that area. Each month we'll be highlighting one of the pages.

Up this month - Communications and Social Media. This resource page is managed by Beth Casebolt, CER Communications Consultant and looks at best practices and trends in social media use and communication strategies.
From the page: Communications is a fast changing and complex area because there is no one communication tool to reach all your members and friends anymore. A good plan requires many tools and approaches. In terms of outreach - If your congregation wants to attract potential members under the age of 50, you will need to have a strong social media presence and use compelling visual elements in your communications. Learn more at the CER website.

Build a Better Board Webinar Series
A Learning Community for Board Members
Join us in a 6-Month Learning Community on serving as a member of your congregation's governing board. This learning community for board members will be hosted by Central East Regional staff Patricia Infante and the Rev Renee Ruchotzke. We will explore board practices, lay-leadership skills, and congregational dynamics. The program will cover 12 essential topics concerning Board Leadership. Participants will have an opportunity to share and learn from one another using case studies and other activities in an online format. Optional in-person gatherings will be planned for Spring 2020 for interested clusters of congregations. Webinars begin on October 17 at 7 pm. Learn more and register at the CER website.
New Day Rising Comes to New York
New Day Rising is coming to the Metro New York area! Bring your lay and staff team and learn from other congregations about their work in dismantling white supremacy culture within their congregations.

We will gather on October 26, 2019 at the UU Congregation at Shelter Rock, Manhasset, NY. Workshops on a range of topics will be offered, plus we'll learn from the experiences of other congregations. Brought to you by Central East Region staff and congregations like yours. Registration is open!

Better Together Blog: The Start of New Things – And More Staff Adjustments in CER
      by Rev. Megan Foley

One of the things we don’t get here in Washington DC is the slight nip in the air that tells you that the school year is about to begin (and allows you to wear your new school clothes rather than your old sweaty summer clothes for another month) but nevertheless, it is September, and it’s the official season of the Start of New Things.

That’s true for us Central East Region staff – sort of! We had been expecting Rev. David Pyle to rejoin our team after his year with the New England Region, but he has up and gotten a new job as the Lead for the Mid America Region. Congratulations, David, we’re very proud of you! And we’re so grateful and delighted that Paula Cole Jones has agreed to stay with CER through June 30th of next year. If you had Paula as your primary contact last year, you will again this year – plus there are several additional New Jersey and New York congregations that will also have Paula this year!
